WHO CAN ADOPT IN TENNESSEE?
The basic requirements to adopt in Tennessee include:

You must be at least 18 years old

You must have lived in Tennessee for six (6) months or more

You must be financially able to provide

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ADOPTION?
There are three (3) types of adoption in Tennessee for minors:

Regular Adoption - requires the termination of parental rights for both parents, consideration of the best interest of the child, a home study, and a minimum six month waiting period.
​
Stepparent Adoption - requires the termination of the parental rights for one parent, consideration of the best interest of the child, and in some cases a minimum six month waiting period. This does NOT require a home study.
​
Relative Adoption - only requires the termination of parental rights for both parents and consideration of the best interest of the child.
